Relief, Inc. (an acronym for "Remember Every Liberian Influences Enduring Freedom) her primary goal is to provide critically needed humanitarian support to the people of war-torn Liberia. Relief’s secondary goal is to provide her local community with food, clothing and other services. In addition to our international and local relief efforts we provide business training and leadership training to local high school and college students. Our goal is to educate students on the importance of giving back to society both locally and internationally... We involve them in our charitable organization and expose them to things that they ordinarily would not experience until they are in the job market. They learn basic office administrative skills, presentation skills, shipping, inventory management and event planning to name a few.
Liberia is a country located on the west coast of Africa and founded by freed slaves in 1847. With a population of 3.5 million people (and growing), Liberia and its people were devastated by war from 1980 until 2003. Driven from their homes, thousands of Liberians had their lives shattered during that tumultuous time. All of the challenges Liberia now faces as it slowly rebuilds can be traced to those years of war - heart¬breaking poverty, an astronomical unemployment rate of 80%, a daunting illiteracy rate of 85%.
Relief Inc.'s wide array of programs has been developed to have a positive impact upon the lives of all Liberia suffering from the tragic consequences of prolonged warfare. These programs include:
Grassroots Resources Optimizing Wellness (GROW) Agricultural students at the University of Liberia are sponsored by Relief, Inc. to become volunteers and work with Farmers/Landowners. Relief, Inc. provides the tools and seeds to farmers for sustainability.
Hope On Wheels (HOW) This program delivers Food, Clothing, Education & Medical supplies to war-torn Liberians.
Kids In School (KIS) This key program helps Liberian children to get the education they need to succeed in life.
Relief, Inc. Liberia Book Trust (RILBT) We collect school books and ship these items to Liberia. Our goal is to reduce the student to textbook ratios from present levels of 27 to 1 to 9 to 1 by 2011, in public primary and secondary schools, respectively.
Sending Hope In Packages (SHIP) Relief, Inc. ships clothes, food, books, and supplies for survival and then to thrive through self sufficiency
Wellness’s Investors Now Give Service (WINGS) Volunteer Doctors/Nurses are recruited to go to Liberia to educate and medicate girls and women about STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) prevention. STD’s are destroying the future of Liberia. Fully 45 out of 50 women are STD positive. Our goal is to reduce the rate of this terrible epidemic which affects 50% of the Liberian population.
Women Of Worth (WOW) We teach Liberian women self sufficiency, by offering scholarships which will help women to learn a trade so they can start their own businesses, or at least become employed. Relief, Inc. will build a school to create jobs for these women to train other women who will work in this important project.
